About SnailWorks

SnailWorks uses a web-based campaign creation portal to walk marketers through the process of building an integrated campaign. Marketers are prompted on the creative pieces they need to develop and are guided in the set-up of the business rules that the campaign will follow. The marketer provides the strategic component of the project – the creative, the value proposition – and SnailWorks provides the tactical tools to coordinate and deploy it.


Dave Lokos – CEO

Dave is an expert in database management and systems design, having been the principal architect of a number of award-winning data management systems used by companies across the country and around the world. These include QueryPro, an online database management tool;, now a Pitney Bowes product; and the SnailWorks multi-channel and mail tracking platform.

In addition to his information technology roles, Dave provides vision and leadership for SnailWorks. When he's not managing the business, Dave is usually coaching or managing one or more of his six kids' athletic teams—which leaves little time for anything else!

Dave Lewis – President

Dave Lewis, the “other” Dave in SnailWorks' Dave and Dave team, provides the day-to-day leadership for the company's sales and marketing efforts, and establishes the vision and leadership for new product development. He is a nationally known expert on direct mail and postal matters and has spoken across the country on a variety of direct marketing topics. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Marketing Service Providers (AMSP) and was the 2008 recipient of AMSP’s Luke Kaiser Award for his contributions to education in the direct mail industry.

Dave is a graduate of the University of Maryland. When he isn’t mailing and marketing stuff, Dave enjoys buying (and even occasionally playing) guitars and traveling.

Chip Birckhead – VP of Technology & Applications Development

Chip has over 20 years of experience in commercial software development. In 2006, he led the development of TrackMyMail’s Precision Track™ Intelligent Mail tracking solution, which was later acquired by Pitney Bowes, Inc. In 2012, Chip returned to lead the development of the SnailWorks™ Coordinated Direct Marketing Platform. In addition, Chip has held senior positions in companies such as Black & Decker, Manugistics, and Harland Clarke.

Chip holds a B.S in Computer Science from Towson University and an MBA from Loyola University of Baltimore.

Karen Bartram – Director of Client Relations

Karen is an expert in direct marketing, with over 30 years experience in a variety of roles, including sales, production management, and client relations. She entered the industry as a production coordinator for a credit marketing agency, working with banks and department stores, and has since worked with publishers, associations, non-profits, and Fortune 500 firms to help them meet their marketing and mailing objectives.

When not busy equipping clients with the knowledge and tools to effectively integrate their direct marketing programs, Karen can be found either scrapbooking or working with children and youth in faith formation activities.

Steve Hertz – Director of Sales

Steve brings to SnailWorks a unique understanding of data, mail, and digital channel engagement for clients seeking creative solutions and best practices. He began his direct response career at Chapman Direct and spent the next two decades leading the sales team at Antares Information Technologies, where he infused his understanding of data management with the production of mail.

He went on to work with Pitney Bowes as the Director of Marketing and Strategy for TrackMyMail, where his team produced double-digit sales growth during his tenure. Steve developed a passion for using mail tracking data to create actionable marketing through the coordination of mail and online channels, which led him to join the SnailWorks team.
