NOT SUCH A GOOD WEEK. ONLY 65.9% OF FIRST-CLASS LETTERS ON TIME
Yuck. Let’s just chalk it up to the Beaver Moon we had – who knows what impact that can have on delivery. Every measured category did worse, with the ironic exception of First-Class flats, which at this point I think, is fair to categorize as a “dead-cat bounce.” Average delivery days for First-Class letters was 4.39. And even though the on-time percentage improved a bit for First-Class flats, a lot of what was late was more than 5 days late – 14.07% to be precise. 7.04% of First-Class letters were more than 5 days late, the worst we’ve seen in 2023 – by a lot. And this is for professionally prepared, presorted mail.
Lest anyone blame a couple of closed facilities, service was consistently bad across all four USPS areas.
Marketing Mail was a little slower, but barely. If all mail performed as well as Marketing Mail letters, I’d have nothing left to write about.
Let’s just call this a bad week. And look forward to what’s next.
