USPS SERVICE PERFORMANCE HOLDS ITS OWN IN CHALLENGING WEEK
From Florida through the Carolinas a lot of the country had bigger things to worry about last week than how long their mail was taking, but the Postal Service turned in a surprisingly good report considering the challenges. First-Class letters performed on a par with the prior week – which was a pretty good week – while First-Class flats did their First-Class flats thing, which is they wavered all over the place, but certainly not the worst week they’ve had. The Southern Area underperformed the other areas of the country as one would expect, and days-in-delivery were on the high side, but overall did well. Of course we don’t really measure performance until the mail is delivered, and that is likely still unfolding – but so far, so good.
Marketing Mail turned in its usual excellent performance.
Expect substantial volume growth in the next few weeks up to the election, and another hurricane, just to rub it in. This is the time to keep a very close eye on performance.
