Plan NOW for 2025 USPS Promotions
September 25, 2024   Dave Lewis

Promotions in 2025 are going to be a Big Deal.  Some promotions are gone, some are brand new, and the rules and discounts have changed a great deal.  More than ever, you will need a strategic approach to how you use promotions to control your postage.  With a little planning, you may be able to cut your postage costs all year long!

We will be dedicating our newsletters and webinars in the coming months to educating you on how to take advantage of all the promotions.  You can do it, with a little planning.  Here are a few things you should be thinking about now:

  1. Tactile, Sensory, Interactive (4%) – Runs 2/1/25-7/31/25
    1. Must submit samples in advance for approval – begin NOW preparing sample mock ups for provisional approval.
    2. Spot gloss, embossing and specialty inks might be the easiest – fancy folds will qualify as well as custom die cuts (if not geometric) – a Snail would look nice!
    3. If you are planning a mailing or two in 2025  with new/eye catching high dollar production, plan to mail during this promo time.
  2. Integrated Technology (3%) – Runs 6 consecutive months of your choice
    1. Mail owner must register for this one NOT MSP
    2. Lots of fancy technologies qualify – mobile shopping easiest
      1. Must use mobile optimized web-site
      2. Able to complete a  sale or donation from mobile site.

NOTE: If your on-line donation or purchase page is not mobile optimized start converting it now.

  1. First Class Mail Advertising (3%) – Runs 9/1/25-12/31/25

Must include a marketing message on primary mail component. This can be an additional marketing message on First-Class matter, or a standalone mail piece.  Start thinking now how you would include a special offer or cross sale on invoices, statements and other First-Class Mail, or look where you may be able to convert some Marketing Mail to First-Class.  Already doing First-Class High dollar versions?  Claim the discount!

  1. Reply Mail IMbA (3-6%) – Runs 7/1/25 – 12/31/25
    1. Mail Owner must register not MSP
    2. Start converting existing BRE mail to QBRM with IMbA – this process will likely take several weeks including a parallel test period – discount will not be issued while still in parallel.
    3. Opening QBRM & IMbA accounts will require the assistance of USPS – there is a documented process.
  2. Continuous Contact (3%) – Runs 4/1/25 – 12/31/25
    1. We don’t have a guide from USPS on this one, yet.  The suspense is killing us!
    2. The gist is that multiple mailings to the same address may get a discount, but it can’t be the same mail piece.  Details to come.
    3. Initial mailing will not qualify for discount and must mail during the promotion period and not prior.

Add-Ons – The most important part of the promotions

  1. Informed Delivery (1% mail owner .5% eDoc submitter) – Runs all year

You are already doing – keep it up for every mailing!

  1. Sustainability (1%) – Runs all year
    1. Which mailing components can you print on recycled stock
    2. No water mark needed just certificate from supplier

All we’re doing here is letting you know what preparations you should be thinking about now.  We’ll be following up with many more details.
