US MAIL TRAFFIC REPORT MARCH 25, 2024
March 25, 2024   Dave Lewis

FIRST-CLASS SERVICE WORSE, LEAD BY ATLANTA AREA PROBLEMS.

Just not a pretty picture.  A lot of trouble spots around the country yielded some of the worst average delivery performance of the year.

Only 68.9% of First-Class letters were delivered on time.  8.86% of FC letters were delivered more than 5 days late.  The average time for a First-Class letter to be delivered was 4.59 days.  18.15% of First-Class flats were delivered more than 5 days late.

Performance for Marketing Mail was also off, but still above 90%.  One issue of which we are hearing is that trucks bringing Marketing Mail to Sectional Centers in some areas are waiting for hours, or being rerouted, so Marketing Mail performance is probably worse that seen here, as our clock cannot start until USPS has accepted the mail.

The Postal Service indicated that they had resolved Atlanta problems, but it wasn’t showing in our data, at least for last week.

Trouble spots showing in our data:

  • Atlanta area
  • Southern Illinois
  • Portland, Oregon
