FIRST-CLASS SERVICE CONTINUES TO DETERIORATE.  ATLANTA GRINDS TO A HALT.

On-time performance slipped a little further last week with just 76.6% of First-Class letters delivered on time.  6.16% were delivered more than five days late.  In some areas the wheels basically came off the bus.  First-Class letters from, well, anywhere to the Atlanta area was averaging more than 12 days to deliver.  Even intra-SCF Marketing Mail in the Atlanta area took more than six days on average to deliver – that is mail that is inducted and delivered within the same SCF.  This generally takes two days.  We suspect that there is mail still awaiting delivery that will make these numbers even worse.  This is generally mail that is being handled by the new S&DC recently opened in Atlanta.  These numbers simply confirm what is already being reported in the Atlanta media.  New York City also showed poor performance, although not in a league with Atlanta.

Aside from Atlanta and New York City, Marketing Mail delivery remains steady, with more than 90% being delivered on time.
