US MAIL TRAFFIC REPORT FEBRUARY 12, 2024
February 12, 2024   Dave Lewis

ON-TIME PERFORMANCE REMAINS WEAK.  AVERAGE DELIVERY DAYS GO UP.

First-Class Mail performance continued at the pace we have been seeing in 2024.  About 80% of First-Class letters were on time, and fewer than 50% of First-Class flats.  Transit times continue to slow:  4.24 days on average for FC letters, and more than 6 days for flats.  6.78% of First-Class letters were more than 5 days late, among the worst we have ever seen.  An astonishing 34.52% of First-Class Flats were more than 5 days late.

The Houston Texas area seems to have had a systemic failure, with media reporting that doctors are advising patients not to get prescriptions by mail.

Marketing Mail continues to show strong performance, although anecdotally we hear of trucks having difficulties finding the right facilities as network changes are made with little or no warning.   We also hear, anecdotally, that many overloaded facilities have lost their First In – First Out (FIFO) process.
