Still no Holiday Hangover – Service Stays Very Strong
Two weeks into the New Year, postal service performance continues to strengthen in virtually every category. I know many mailers entered this past holiday season with trepidation, and service did suffer some during December, as it does in any rush, but seems to have rebounded exceptionally well.
First-Class Letters were on time 89.85% of the time based on previous delivery service standards, an improvement of about two points from the prior week, which had already shown a big improvement. Against the new standards, First-Class letters were on time 97.25% of the time. This is among the best delivery performance we have seen since we started compiling these statistics. Even First-Class flats showed tremendous improvements with on-time deliveries 92.64% of the time, vs the old standards, and 96.34% vs the new standards. It seems there was a tremendous clearing out of any backlog.
Marketing Mail Letters were on time 98.10% of the time, the best we’ve seen this year. Marketing Mail Flats were delivered on time 95.21% of the time, the best we’ve seen since May, just topping last week.
Average Intra-SCF delivery time was 1.88 days for Marketing Mail letters, 1.83 days for Marketing Mail flats. Broken record here – another great performance.
