ACS as a Revenue Generator

Some service enhancements are tricky to sell – ACS is easy. When you identify an undeliverable address, that information is worth money. If you provide that information, you are helping your client improve response and save costs by eliminating those addresses from future mailings. And they are in every mailing. Let's do some quick arithmetic:
  • Mailing size:                                        50,000 pieces
  • Undeliverable addresses:                 750 (This is 1.5% - very typical for a very well maintained list)
  • Typical cost per piece:                      $.75 (print, production, postage)
  • Direct cost of undeliverable pieces: $562.50 (750 x $.75)
  • Cost of lost response:                         ???
Everybody wins when these records are identified and updated or removed from future mailings – the mail owner gets a better list, the Postal Service doesn't have to handle undeliverable mail, and the mail provider can charge a fair price for a valuable service. If you're not providing ACS services to your clients, why not?
