THE POSTAL SERVICE GETS A STATISTICAL REPRIEVE

Hey, look at that!  USPS performance made an amazing comeback.  Could DFA finally be delivering?

Nah.

This first report after the new year begins always looks very good, and this year is no exception.  Maybe everyone at the Postal Service is full of Holiday cheer and working extra hard to get all the mail delivered faster?

Nope.

The true answer is less encouraging.  Like the Postal Service. We only count postal days in our reports.  So, holidays are free days for service.  The last two weeks included two holidays, and since we are reporting on mail as it is delivered, those days don’t get counted.  Realistically, you could add about one and a half days to the transit time shown to get closer to what this would look like without holidays.  We see this every year.  It doesn’t go away instantly, either, as the second holiday will still impact transit time next week, but generally less so.

A more meaningful statistic in this report is to view the MTD for December (December 2024 performance) versus YTD for 2024 (Performance for all of 2024.)

But let’s not dwell on that.  Let’s enjoy a good-looking week.  Happy New Year!
