US MAIL TRAFFIC REPORT – MARCH 27, 2023

FLAT MAIL SERVICE RECOVERS FOR A WEEK

It was nice to scan along the top line of last week’s traffic report and not see a glaring performance issue with First-Class flats.  89.6% were delivered on time, which is a lot better than the previous week’s 72.7% on-time performance.  Average transit time dropped from 3.91 days to 2.97 days.  Transit time is like golf – a low score is good.

The rest of the bunch, First-Class and Marketing Mail letters pretty much followed the status quo, sticking close to their annual averages for 2023, YTD, though Marketing Mail flats lagged with just 87.2% delivered on time, and transit times more closely reflecting my golfing scores – up almost a day.

Overall, performance continues to be slower than the same time last year, albeit not with disastrous flat numbers…this week.  Network changes?  Weather?  We’ll see.
