WEEKLY US MAIL TRAFFIC REPORT – JUNE 6, 2022
June 6, 2022   Dave Lewis

WHEW!  TREND?  WHAT TREND?  USPS HAS A PRETTY GOOD WEEK

I must admit – I’m a little nervous some Monday mornings when I get my first glimpse of the performance reports for the prior week.  It had looked like maybe we had a little downtrend going on in the last few weeks – was service getting worse, or just statistical noise?  Apparently just noise – on-time performance in key categories improved last week.  Holiday weeks can be funny, but there is generally not a “holiday bump” in performance.  And so, we offer a drama-free week.

For the week beginning May 30, 2022, First-Class letters were delivered on time 93.43% of the time, the tiniest bit better than the prior week (92.08%).  First-Class flats were delivered on time 96.10% of the time, the second-best performance we’ve seen this year, and a dramatic improvement from the prior week (85.35%).  As we said in the headline – Whew.

Marketing Mail Letters stayed strong with 94.92% delivered on time.  Marketing Mail Flats were delivered on time 94.95% of the time.  All pretty good numbers.

Average Intra-SCF delivery time was 2.19 days for Marketing Mail letters, 2.16 days for Marketing Mail flats.

MAP OF THE WEEK

Marketing Mail letters inducted in Hartford, CT.  The map on the left is based on all the data for the past year.  The map on the right is based on just the last two weeks.  We have definitely seen some improvement in performance.  We’ll have to come back to this comparison in a few weeks.
